Lawrence Mendoza Langowski, “Larry” was born outside of Chicago, Illinois to Mexican and Polish-American parents.  He is a dual-citizen (USA-Mexico).  Lawrence was an Olympian in the Games of the XXIX Olympiad.

At the age of  13, he started competing for a local inner city kids wrestling club.  In 2003 he became the winningest wrestler at Gordon Tech High School with a record of 114-12 and achieved All-American distinction.

In 2007, he earned a Bachelors Degree in Psychology from Northwestern University. Lawrence wrestled at the division 1 level from 2003-2006 with Academic All Big-Ten Conference Honors.  His intercollegiate career ended abruptly after serious injury and ultimately termination from the team roster.

In 2008, Lawrence continued competing in wrestling on the Mexican National Team in Freestyle Wrestling. He earned qualification to the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China – the first wrestler to represent Mexico in the past three Olympic cycles.

Currently, he is promoting Chicago’s 2016 Olympic Bid as a bilingual latino Olympian. He also operates a “Heavenly” Gelato Cafe in the Logan Square area of Chicago, 2662 N. Sawyer Ave.
